Good news!!
Stipend available for IP Participants who qualify!
As of fall semester, 2007, there is a new stipend available to IP students studying abroad on semester (fall, spring, or academic year) study abroad!! Sorry, but IP students participating in faculty-led summer study abroad programs are not eligible for this funding.
Stipend funds will be awarded based on need through the Financial Aid Office; so, if you think you are eligible for financial aid but have not yet completed your FAFSA application, do so right away. No other application process is necessary. However, as required by International Plan policy, applicants must have a 3.0 prior to going abroad to qualify for the funding.
Under the current 2007/2008 program, we expect all eligible students to receive a minimum of $750.00 in the semester in which they depart for their semester study abroad program. Awards are always subject to funding availability. Furthermore, funds may not be made available prior to departure; so, if awarded, plan accordingly.
Qualifying students may be awarded this stipend only once per academic year but may apply again in subsequent years. However, if a qualifying student has been awarded in the past, priority will be given to those qualifying applicants who have not previously been awarded.
Stipend details are subject to change and, as mentioned above, awards are subject to funding availability.
What do you need to do? If you are studying abroad on exchange and have completed a FAFSA, you don’t need to do anything. You are already under consideration. If you have NOT filled out a FAFSA, go to http://www.finaid.gatech.edu/forms and click on the link for “Free Application for Federal Student Aid.”
