What will students gain by participating in the International Plan?

Upon completion of the International Plan, students will be able to:

  • discuss major international cultural, political, and economic processes and systems.
  • assimilate knowledgeably and comfortably into foreign lifestyles and work environments.

  • utilize an understanding of the global economy and international relations.

These skills will better prepare students for a job in the increasingly competitive and interconnected world.

How will International Plan be noted on a student's transcript?

Students who complete the requirements for the International Plan and for their undergraduate major will be recognized by the designation "International Plan" on the transcript and diploma. For example, the diploma of a student majoring in mechanical engineering who completes the International Plan will read: "BS in Mechanical Engineering: International Plan."

How can students satisfy the International Plan requirements?

International Plan requirements are satisfied with specialized courses within a student's major discipline and appropriate globally focused electives. Each participating major has developed at least one sample curriculum showing how students could complete the requirements for the Bachelor of Science with the International Plan. Students have a variety of options in terms of language study, location of international experience, and type of international experience for meeting IP requirements. The International Plan faculty representatives and IP advisor are available to advise students on relevant coursework to satisfy the IP requirements.
